Stable Boy

                                               2012 - Mixed Media on board - 8X8 inches

I have such a strange relationship to this series of mixed media works. On the one hand I love them and "trip out" on the various things I see in them once they're done: the animal/human dichotomy, the various cubist-influenced (really? Cubist?) points of view, and in the case of one like this, the juxtaposition between controlled ink lines and non-controlled ink flow. I dunno. Maybe I'm making all of this up.

On the other hand, I invariably feel like this isn't right somehow, as this "isn't the kind of work I do". Oh really? I beg to differ. I'm still so attached to the idea of straight-up painting, and these mythical paintings that I will someday get back to creating, that I can never quite "own" what I'm producing. The same way I can't quite commit to or "own" what I'm writing it would seem, as I'm always putting "quotes" "on" "words" "that" "I" "can't" "quite" "bring" "myself" "to" "own".

This fellow looks a bit like Eraserhead.
