I'm not exactly getting into the studio these days, so there's no new artwork. There will be... THERE WILL BE. Meanwhile, I'd like to take a trip back to when I was 19 years old, having recently moved from Victoria to Calgary in search of work. I lived with my room-mate/work-mate/deeply influential friend Neil in a chic high-rise apartment, learning a few things about the world after being freshly hatched from the bubble of my life in Victoria. Neil was smart and beautiful and resolutely 100% uncompromisingly himself, which impressed me very much. He was cutting, and he was funny. He introduced me to The Talking Heads, Elvis Costello, Lily Tomlin, Doris Lessing, William Burroughs, Jean Genet, plus new areas of creativity that I wasn't previously noticing: beautiful objects, furniture design, interiors, architecture, and landscapes. I'm sure I'm forgetting to mention many, many things. I was only 19... what did I know? Not much.
Neil was unlike anyone I had ever met, and knowing him I felt that I was no longer alone in the world... alone with the things I saw and thought about that I didn't think anyone else saw or thought about. I loved him an awful lot. Neil died in 1997.
The two Talking Heads albums he had were "Talking Heads '77" and "More Songs about Buildings and Food". This song is from the latter.
